10/08/09 - DafaGames Offers Satellites to the Mahjong World Tour’s Online Championship

MANILA – October 8, 2009 – DafaGames, Asia’s No. 1 online Chinese games website, has announced that it will be partnering with the Mahjong World Tour for a series of satellite tournaments which will culminate in a grand final. The event, known as the Mahjong World Tour Satellite Series, will be open to all DafaGames players.

From September 12 to December 26, 2009, DafaGames will hold a series of weekly mahjong tournaments where the top winners will be winning seats into the Mahjong World Tour’s Online Championship. A total of 33 players will be able to win free entries into this prestigious online mahjong tournament through the satellites on DafaGames.

The Mahjong World Tour Online Championship will be an online mahjong tournament on January 2, 2010, where the top winner will win 3,200RMB. Other players who place in the top twelve win cash prizes as well, including a minimum of 1600RMB for second place. Buy-in for this tournament is 70RMB with a tournament fee of 7RMB.

In addition to this, DafaGames has an ongoing Weekly Best Hand promotion where the player to wins the highest Fan in any one game gets to win up to 500RMB.

10/25/08 - The First Mahjong Cultural Exchange Congress and World Mahjong Championship
October 25-29 we spent four days in Chengdu before travelling to Emei Shan where the World Mahjong Championship took place at Hong Zhu Shan Hotel on November 1-5.

CHENGU, November 5th, 2007 - Li Li, a Chinese student of Tsinghua University, is the new world champion in mahjong. During the World Mahjong Championship (WMC), concluded today in Chengdu, he scored the best results after seven 'ju' (sessions) and the eighth, final ju. He is the successor of Ms. Mai Hatsune from Japan, the winner (in 2002) of the World Championship in Mahjong in Tokyo. Mai Hatsune did not compete in Chengdu to defend her title.

Runner-up was Zhang Zhangfei, also from China, whilst the third place was for a Japanese: Minoru Imaeda. Amongst the 16 players who were admitted to the final round, was just one non-Asian player: Ms. Désirée Heemskerk from the Netherlands, who ended on position # 10. There were 144 players: from China, Japan, Europe (represented by the European Mahjong Association, EMA) and the United States. The best team was China Shanxi Jiexiu (94 table points), followed by China Shanghai Zhangjiang (83 points) and

Japan Mahjong Sport Association Osaka (80).
Best non-Asian team was Désirée's Rotterdam team, on position number 11 (63 points). During the Award Ceremony, which took place some hours after the WMC, the new world champion received an invitation to come and play in the Open European Mahjong Championship 2009, which will be held in Baden (Austria), near Vienna. His airline ticket, hotel cost and subscription fee will be paid by the organizing committee of OEMC 2009.

12/05/07 - World Series of Mahjong to be Held Again in Macau in September 2008
( December 5, 2007 - Macau )World Mahjong Limited (“WML”) announced today that the second annual World Series of Mahjong will be held again at the prestigious Wynn Macau from September 19 to 21, 2008, following the huge success of the first tournament held in June of this year. The minimum total prize money for next year’s event will be US$1 million and continues to be the highest prize money in the history of mahjong tournaments. WML is optimistic that participants in next year’s tournament will far outnumber those of this year, as mahjong lovers around the world will be watching this “battle of the year” with great interest and anticipation.
